Adam Douglas Driver (born November 19, 1983) is an American actor.
Driver grew up as a Baptist and sung in the church choir. He joined the US Marine Corps immediately after the 9/11 attacks. He was in the military for almost three years and just before his unit was deployed to Iraq, he faced an accident while mountain biking and fractured his sternum. He was then medically discharged from the army, with the status of Lance Corporal.
Driver then spent a year at the University of Indianapolis before being accepted to Julliard. He claims that his classmates thought of him as a threatening and unpredictable figure and that he struggled to adapt into a culture so distinct from the Marines’.
Driver was a part of Group 38 of the Drama Division from 2005 until 2009, where he met Joanne Tucker, whom he married in 2013. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and started his acting career in New York City right after graduating from Juilliard. During this period, he acted in Broadway as well as off-Broadway shows.
In 2009, he made his television debut as a remorseful eyewitness and hesitant accomplice in an unsolved attack in the last episode of The Unusuals. In 2011, Drive debuted in Clint Eastwood’s historical movie J. Edgar. In 2012, Driver was cast as Adam Sackler in the HBO television show Girls.
Driver was selected as the antagonist Kylo Ren in Star Wars: The Force Awakens in early 2014. The film was released in late 2015 to critical and commercial success.
He went on to perform a number of supporting roles in films including Martin Scorsese’s Silence before landing the lead in Jim Jarmusch’s Paterson. Adam appeared in twelve films between 2016 and 2019, including Star Wars: The Last Jedi, The Report, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and Marriage Story.
In 2021, Driver appeared in Leos Carax’s musical drama Annette, then he appeared in Ridley Scott’s historical drama The Last Duel, as well as House of Gucci.
