Year of Yes by Shonda Rhimes

Shonda Rhimes is the creator of Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, and Bridgerton. This book is honest, funny, and inspiring. This book is about a personal journey. In 2013, Shonda began her “Year of Yes.” The “Year of Yes” meant that she spent a whole year saying yes to things that scared or challenged her.

This book will inspire you to overcome your fears and self-limitations and embrace your vulnerability. This book is the big-sister advice that you need if you feel like introversion is holding you back. This is ideal for the new year – start your Year of Yes!

The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle

This book argues that most human suffering comes from living in the past or worrying about the future instead of living in the present. This cook is structured like a conversation, where the author explains ideas and responds to common questions.

Many people are stuck in regret, fear, and overthinking. However, by observing thoughts instead of being controlled by them, we can accept the things we cannot change and live in the present moment. If you struggle to live in the moment, this book offers sound advice.

The Midnight Library by Matt Haig

This is a work of fiction that follows Nora Seed, a woman who feels stuck and disappointed with how her life has turned out. She finds herself in the Midnight Library, a space between moments where every book represents a different version of her life where she made a different choice.

She examines what could have been, why she regrets her choices, and what actually makes a life worth living. This book provides hope without being overly cheesy. If you’re struggling with feelings of hopelessness or regret, this book can help you gain perspective.

The Heart’s Invisible Furies by John Boyne

This novel follows one man’s life from birth to old age. It’s reflective – focused on identity, belonging, love, and self-acceptance. This book unfolds seven decades of a life. A slow, steady journey that shows how growth is non-linear.

Witty and emotionally honest, this book will make you laugh and cry! If you feel like you’re having a quarter-life crisis, this book will make you slow down and realize that everything is going to be okay in the end. Reflect on your journey.

Madapple by Christina Meldrum

This work of literature is a beautiful story of philosophy, belief systems, and truth. Following Aslaug Hellig, a young woman who was raised in near-complete isolation by her mother, Maren. Her mother taught her botany, languages, mythology, and religions, but nothing about normal life. When she suddenly dies, Aslaug is left to navigate the world alone.

If you are looking for a unique work of fiction that challenges how you think about reality, this is the book for you. This is one of my favorite books that I have ever read. It is symbolic, layered, and unconventional.
